Lieto’s Hot-Dip Galvanizing Plant Passes Tukes Inspection
The soon-to-open hot-dip galvanizing plant in Lieto, which is set to be the most environmentally friendly in Europe, passed the Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes) inspection with flying colors on June 13. The first batch of chemicals arrived at the factory on June 17, including 42 tons of flux, which was directly added to the flux tank through the factory’s chemical handling system. Chemicals will continue to arrive daily and be added to the tanks at the same pace.
“We fully met the conditions of Tukes’ Chemical Safety Permit, and the new hot-dip galvanizing plant in Lieto received its operating permit on June 14, 2024,” rejoices Mikko Mäkinen, Aurajoki Oy’s Development Director and Project Manager for the initiative. “Meeting the stringent requirements of the permit conditions required extensive participation and collaboration across various levels of Aurajoki’s organization. Our excellent level of expertise and thorough preparation for the inspection ensured that there were no deviations, and the plant’s operation can commence as planned on July 1, 2024. Special thanks to the Safety and Chemicals Agency for their clear and open handling and guidance of the permit matters.”
