Hot-dip galvanizing
Hot-dip galvanizing is a durable, economical, and environmentally-friendly way of protecting steel against corrosion caused by environmental conditions. In hot-dip galvanizing, a glossy coating of zinc-iron phases and pure zinc is formed on the surface of the steel, the thickness of which varies between 50 and 200 µm.
The advantages of hot-dip galvanizing include affordability, wear resistance, adherence, long service life, low maintenance, penetration of molten zinc into the inner parts of galvanised structures, and easy quality control. In addition, the galvanized coating provides cathodic protection to the steel in case of damage. For this reason, it is a popular surface treatment method in the construction industry, in the construction of railways, roads and power lines, and in vehicle and engineering structures.
The zinc coating itself provides excellent corrosion protection and an aesthetic appearance, but it can be further improved by painting. This "duplex" system of galvanizing and painting lets us offer zinc coatings in almost limitless colours. We do hot-dip galvanizing at four of our plants: Aura, Lievestuore, Mikkeli and Pirkkala.
