Carbon neutrality in operations maintained and value chain emissions in decline
For Aurajoki, environmental responsibility means measurable actions and responsible partnership. Our latest 2025 carbon footprint report, prepared in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol and executed by Greenstep Oy, shows excellent results. Our total emissions decreased significantly from the previous year, and we firmly continue as a carbon-neutral company regarding our own operations.
Carbon neutrality in own operations is our new normal (Scope 1 and 2)
- What does this mean? Scope 1 covers the company’s direct emissions, such as fuels for our own vehicles and properties. Scope 2, on the other hand, refers to indirect emissions from the production of purchased energy, i.e., electricity and heat.
- Where do we stand? We made the decision to be the first carbon-neutral company in our industry regarding Scope 1 and 2 emissions already in early 2024. We achieved this by switching to emission-free electricity and district heating products and by compensating for residual emissions. The zero-emission level for electricity consumption (calculated market-based) was perfectly maintained in 2025 as well.
Value chain data gets more precise and emissions drop (Scope 3)
- What does this mean? Scope 3 is the category of indirect emissions, which includes, among other things, the company’s purchases, transport, investments, and waste.
- Where do we stand? Because these value chain emissions constitute the vast majority (93%) of our company’s total carbon footprint, we have invested heavily in collecting precise data and reducing them together with our partners.
- Results: The work is bearing fruit. Our total emissions (Scope 1–3) dropped during 2025 by 26% from the previous year’s figures (2025: 7,695 tCO2e, 2024: 10,403 tCO2e). Emissions from purchased products and services alone decreased by an impressive 30% (2025: 5,205 tCO2e, 2024: 7,421 tCO2e).
