Aurajoki Oy Awarded as the Most Energy-Smart Company of 2025
Aurajoki Oy has been selected as the winner of the Most Energy-Smart Company 2025 competition, organized for the first time for companies in the Turku region. The competition was arranged by the Turku Chamber of Commerce and Turku Energia, with the goal of encouraging companies to improve their energy efficiency.
Aurajoki Oy, specializing in metal surface treatment services and the manufacturing of steel structures for infrastructure, stood out in the competition with its concrete and comprehensive energy efficiency measures. The company’s new hot-dip galvanizing plant in Lieto, completed in 2024, was a decisive factor in its win: the plant generates approximately 2,300 MWh of waste heat annually, which is recovered and fed into the local district heating network in Lieto. In addition, Aurajoki Oy has made significant investments in solar energy, LED lighting in its factories, and various other measures to enhance energy efficiency. Through these initiatives, Aurajoki Oy has strengthened its position as a responsible company promoting sustainable solutions.
“The goal of this competition is to encourage companies of all sizes to consider their own energy efficiency. Often, the actions of one company serve as inspiration for others as well. Even small measures can have a big impact,” says Harri Salo, Sales Director at Turku Energia and Chair of the competition jury.
“We consider it important that companies operating in an exemplary and energy-smart manner are recognized publicly, so we were happy to take part in the competition. The ambitious energy and climate goals of the Turku region also require contributions from the business community, and the awarded companies are excellent examples within their respective industries,” says Krista Ahonen, Head of Advocacy at the Turku Chamber of Commerce.
“It is a great honor to receive this recognition as the most energy-smart company of the year. Sustainability has been a key part of our strategy, and our hot-dip galvanizing plant in Lieto is the first in Europe – possibly in the world – where waste heat from the production process is recovered for district heating. This award is a wonderful recognition of our long-term commitment to sustainable development,” says Ralf Sohlström, CEO of Aurajoki Oy.
The award ceremony was held in Turku on Friday, October 3, 2025, where the award was received by Ralf Sohlström, CEO of Aurajoki Oy, and Mikko Kuikkaniemi, HSEQ Manager.
